Brittany’s Senior Photos | Senior Portraits

Image

I cannot even believe it is graduation season already! It was just this time last year that I was taking High School senior photos for my own class, and now there is a whole new class of amazing Penn State seniors in the books for this year. I am absolutely in love with these Penn State inspired sessions already. Not only is the campus absolutely beautiful, I have so many incredibly gorgeous and talented young women lined up in these next few weeks that I am SO excited to work with!

Brittany is majoring in telecommunications. We met right before her session and immediately hit it off! Her best friend came along to help, and we all had so much fun posing and giggling around campus. Brittany is absolutely gorgeous and is going to do some amazing things in the future! I am also in LOVE with her amazing mint blazer! Enjoy some of our favorites from her session!

What to Wear: Senior Sessions | Tips and Tricks

I am so excited that sunnier {hopefully} warmer days are upon us, and with that, portrait season! I have a few gorgeous shoots coming up, and I am so ready to get back into the swing of things! I have been being asked recently about what I recommend wearing for your portrait session, so I decided to do a blog post about just a few tips and tricks I have picked up over time.

  • Bring a few outfit changes. Sessions usually range between one and a half to two and a half hours, depending on location and outfit changes. Changing two to three times is usually the perfect amount because this allows us to get a few different looks, but won’t make you feel super rushed in front of the camera! If you have a few options in mind, and you can’t decide between your last couple of outfit choices do bring them to our session! I love creating outfits with you that will coordinate with your location of choice to achieve your perfect look.

  • Looking back at some photos from the past, you can definitely see that certain trends have not stood the test of time (windbreakers from the 90′s, anyone?). Because of that, these images have become somewhat dated. I love creating timeless images that you can enjoy and display for a lifetime. Because of this, I recommend trying to dress as timeless as possible. Jeans and a styled, plain top are perfect and photograph so well! With that being said, don’t be afraid to bring some crazy statement pieces or outfits! I love to mix this look in with a classic outfit to really create a versatile group of images that reflect who you are. Avoid revealing your mid drift and super short shorts or skirts as this can distract from your beautiful face!
  • Colors and patterns are everywhere and can bring your images to life! Patterns, however, can also become very distracting in an image. By wearing solid colors with a small pop of pattern or color, your eye will be drawn to your gorgeous face, rather than a distracting pattern. This is not saying that all patterns are bad! Try pairing a pattern with one or two colors with some neutral accessories and jeans for a more cohesive look that won’t distract from your photo.

Image

  • Layers are wonderful, and really add depth to your photo! Blazers, cardigans, scarves and jackets can really tie an outfit together, and can also keep you warm in chillier weather. As an added bonus, you can always take off the top layer for a completely new look!

Image

  • Dress for the season and location. You wouldn’t normally wear riding boots and a jacket to the beach in the summer, so you probably wouldn’t want to wear them in those pictures. You want your outfit choices to make sense, and you also don’t want to be too hot or too cold while we’re shooting!
  • Bring a variety of outfit types. A dressy top or cute sundress with a fun pair of shoes are great! If you opt to wear heals, try to bring a comfy pair of flats or flip-flops to change into while walking from location to location. Don’t be afraid to bring your favorite t-shirt or jersey to reflect your time in school! Remember your photos are about YOU, and some of my favorite images are these more casual ones.

Image

  • Try to avoid super heavy makeup, and instead opt for a more natural look. Try a pop of color on your lips, cheeks or eyes to bring out your gorgeous features. Always bring lipgloss and powder for touchups!
  • Most importantly, remember that these are YOUR images! We are creating YOUR personalized keepsakes for YOU to treasure for years to come. You want these photos to reflect who you are at this amazing time in your life. Choose outfits that reflect who you are and what you love. Wear things that make you feel comfortable and confident. If you have it, bring your cap and gown. Add fun and silly props. Bring sparkles and confetti. If you have an awesome idea, share it with me and we can make it work!

  • Still feeling a little lost? I absolutely LOVE Pinterest, and have been collecting outfit ideas on my ‘Outfit’ board for the last couple of months! This is such a great tool if you are stumped for inspiration, and definitely a wonderful place to start when stuck trying to come up with a few outfits for your photos. (The photos throughout this post can be found there too, along with many others!)

PASS | Rebranding

As many of you may know, I am in the middle of the crazy and exciting process of rebranding my business. I am working on new designs, an updated look for the blog and Facebook page, and am working on new ways to run things around here. EEEE SO EXCITING!

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned integrating the new PASS into my workflow. I am discovering new ways to use it each and every day, but I have been using it for about a month now, and it has seriously blown me away already! Taking the place of DVD’s, clients will now be receiving their photos in an insanely beautiful and easy to use online gallery. From there, you will be able to download high-resolution images right to your computer. You can also share them with your family and friends via email, a mobile app right on your iPhone, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I love all of the share options, especially being able to share with family all the way across the country! They too will be able to download your images too, so there is no more need to ship DVD’s, flash drives, or email huge files. Don’t worry, galleries can be password protected if you wish, so only your loved ones can view and download your priceless images!

And if PASS couldn’t get any better, they’re even partnering with one of my favorite print labs in the near future to deliver beautiful prints of your favorite shots from your photo session or event right to your doorstep! WHAT?! It is seriously incredible, and makes life so much easier for everyone! Take a quick peak below at what you can expect your PASS gallery to look like.

Black Light Photography | Portrait Photographer

ImageThis is Maura. She is definitely one of the most gorgeous and down to earth people that I have ever met, and she also happens to be one of my best friends! She is incredibly creative and quite the photog herself. A few months back, she had this genius idea for her senior year photography class. Put black light glitter on someones face instead of makeup? Yeah, thats sick. Fast forward to me sitting in my photo class here, and struggling to come up with an idea for my current project. Suddenly her image pops into my head, and I knew that that was what I was going to be my inspiration for this project. I planned on making a galaxy on her face…but it didn’t really work out the way I planned. (note to self…neon orange glitter DOES NOT look like stars!) I am going to be forever in debt to Maura for her awesome skills at playing with this glitter! She seriously saved me! The photos we made together turned out way better than I ever could have imagined, thanks to all her tips and tricks! I am so happy that she finally got to be the model under the black light. I am so incredibly lucky to have amazing friends that are always willing to inspire me and help me become a better photographer! We had so much fun shooting these photos, and I hope you enjoy! These are a few of my favorites!
